Arny Alberts is a burnt cookie, a member of that ransacked community of children who don’t have the opportunity to grow up without the torment, guilt, and shame of sexual abuse. Alberts refers to them as burnt cookies because, well, they just don’t come out right, as his memoir is keen to demonstrate. “Burnt Cookies” is a fascinating account of how the sexual abuse he suffered as a child is drawn through his life like a piano wire, reverberating throughout in the saddest of notes.
