Just hanging: A Boston College Minute featuring John Bapst, SJ—the University’s first president (1863–69)—his Jesuit successors, and a man with a drill.
In May 2014, following restoration and reframing, the formal portraits of 22 presidents of Boston College were hung on the south wall of Gasson 100. The portrait of John Bapst was added this fall—following the completion of its restoration. The presidents served an average of five years and 11 months. Thomas Stack died of a fever in August 1887, three weeks into his tenure. J. Donald Monan served the longest—24 years (1972–96). The man with the drill is Scott Angus of the Sign Center.
