Finding Love When You Least Expect It.

This book is one I like to put in the category of a Hallmark Movie. If you keep that in mind I think you will enjoy this book.

It is a sweet story of finding love when you least expect it. It shows the struggles of early colonial life and hardships of the people at that time with just enough humor to lighten things up. The story is sweet and innocent because there isn't any descriptive sex (it leaves it to your imagination) and it has old fashioned values which I admire. It also shows how people used to rely on God to help them through difficult situations....something else I admire.

The narrator did a good job with the story. No complaints.

Again, if you enjoy Hallmark type Christian romances give this one a try.

Nice read!

I really liked this book. After a few chapters, you get used to the reader. She did a great job. I liked how the book was set in colonial times instead of the much too common western pioneer times. This book (and author in general) is a much more suggestive than other Christian romance authors. Though nothing bad is described, there are a lot of sensual scenes. Nevertheless, it was a nice romance story.

Accurate and Excellent Portrayal

I was surprised at the comments from fellow Christian readers. (I also write Christian historical fiction.) There is a strong inspirational element through this story, but it is also balanced with the reality of living in the early colonial times. The heroine is in an extremely difficult and dangerous situation while the hero has his own immediate daily demands and a history of loss that loads him down. Ms. Gist has the research down pat on this (I have also done extensive research and live in this area of the country). The plot line is solid, the characters well developed, and the spiritual arc is there and is realistic. The narrator did a wonderful job. I was pleased to have this available as an audio download. This is definitely an example of the edgier types of Christian fiction coming out and is not a gentle Janette Oke type of book (I also love Ms. Oke and have read her for the past two decades.)

poorly written book

The plot for this book was certainly intriguing. However, throughout most of the book, the author talks too much about their sexual attraction to each other. The characters are not filled out very well but there is certainly the physical attraction that you read about. If I owned an inspirational publishing company, I would not publish this book. I'm sorry that I wasted money on this book.
