A Brief History of Coffee

Listen Later

Coffee and its history is the topic on the 4th episode of the podcast.

Legend states that coffee was first discovered in Ethiopia in the early 800s. A goat herder named Kaldi awoke from his nap to see that his flock had disappeared. He found them at a strange looking bush eating red berries. The goats were yelling and jumping about. Naturally Kaldi tried the berries and began to join in with the dancing and jumping and yelling.

Coffee was incorporated into Sufi religious practices. Coffee houses sprang up and ideas spread around the region. Europeans took notice and coffee houses spread even further.
