In today’s episode I speak to Dr. Tshidi who works full-time at the GIBS Business School Faculty. She is a Lecturer, a Researcher, Entrepreneurship Consultant who assists small businesses answer questions in relation to market access and business and an Education Specialist. Our discussion today speaks about having a career in academia. Dr Tshidi talks about what academia is and how she became an academic and her journey towards reaching that goal. She walks us through all the different levels and requirements one needs to complete to get to the Ph.D. level and some of the obstacles you may be faced with. We touch on how women are a minority within this industry and also discuss the inequality women are still faced with, despite doing the same amount of work as their male counterparts. Some other key points we can take away from this change conversation include that one must: Choose a subject that you are passionate about or familiar with; get mentors to help you and guide you; collaborate and don't always try to do everything alone and stand firm in who you are.
