Paul is writing to the church at Colossae

As far as we know he never visited there. Ephesus was the closest he came. Epaphras was saved and took the gospel to Colossae. Paul prays for the church and mentions several attributes that made the Colossian church a church God could use. These attributes are signs for us today of a church God can use.
