TW: ableism, physical trauma via surgery, PTSD, anxiety, brief mention of sexual assault
This week we have Claire Raymond (she/her) of @livingwithclaireity on to chat about disabilities! Claire is absolutely lovely and her page centers on talking openly and honestly about disabilities while empowering others to do the same and embrace their beautiful bodies!
During this episode, Claire mentions quite a few resources that I wanted to make sure I included here. The first is the film “Crip Camp.” This film is available on Netflix & I have linked their website here.
We also chat about children’s books that center on inclusive stories which can be found on Claire’s Instagram (@livingwithclaireity) under the highlight “Kid Books.” Also on her IG, Claire has a highlight called “Following” that lists disabled creators to follow! 20 of those creators are: @jessicaoutofthecloset @roll.with.cole @footlessjo @shaneburcaw @wheel.life.in.the.wheel.world @alyssaksilva @chronically_ry @therollingexplorer @spencer2thewest @lucy_bealll @crutches_and_spice @theseatednurse @briscalesse @thedisabledhippie @emma_anne_sorensen @christina_chambers @katestanforth @alistroker @kimberly_minto @sonia_soltero & more on Claire’s page!
Lastly, we chat about giving monetarily to an organization that supports the disabled community. Claire suggested the Triumph Foundation. The Triumph Foundation’s mission is: “to help children, adults, and Veterans with spinal cord injury/disorder to triumph over their disability and to inspire them to keep moving forward with their lives by pushing themselves to get better every day.” If you have the finances to support them, you can donate on their website!
