Drawing South

A conversation with April Webb

Listen Later

In 2007 I started teaching at Flagler College as an adjunct

and taught Sculpture III to exactly three students. In my second semester, I started teaching Sculpture 1 in the evenings and brought this old avocado green
percolator coffee maker to class. Every Monday and Wednesday through 2010 before we did anything in class, we started by making a BIG pot of coffee. I had next to no money, so it was Folgers, powdered cream, and the cheapest sugar from the Winn Dixie on US 1, but anyone who had that class remembers that old percolator and the name we
gave ourselves was the Sculpture One Coffee Club. April Webb was (we think) in that first-ever sculpture one class I taught. In the intervening years she has gotten her MFA, makes great art, and now works at FSU in Tallahassee for their Art Department! She reached out a few years
ago on Instagram and it took me way too long to invite her to record an episode but here it is, 18 years after we first met our first conversation in as many years recorded for you all to hear! #AprilWebbart #sculptureonecoffeeclub
