A Creatives Survival Guide to the 'Sunday Scaries'

Listen Later

It's Sunday, in this episode we delve into some helpful switch army knife tips on how to have a win of a week by prepping a successful week on Sunday. Some tips we go over.

1. Start with Reflection

Before diving into planning, I take time to reflect on the past week. What went well? What challenges did I face? As creatives, we often juggle multiple projects, clients, and ideas. Reflection gives me clarity on what needs attention and what can wait.

A simple journaling session or a quiet coffee break to jot down wins and lessons learned can help clear your mind and provide direction for the week ahead.

2. Organize and Plan

Instead of letting the week’s tasks pile up and overwhelm me, I dedicate my Sunday to getting ahead. Here’s how I tackle it:

Review Deadlines and Projects: I take a look at what’s coming up—client meetings, project due dates, and personal goals.

Prioritize Tasks: I break my to-do list into manageable chunks, focusing on what’s most critical for Monday and Tuesday. Starting with smaller wins sets the tone for the rest of the week.

Set Calendar Blocks: I allocate time slots for deep creative work, meetings, and even breaks. Having a clear schedule prevents me from overloading myself.

3. Tidy Up Your Workspace

A cluttered desk equals a cluttered mind. I spend a few minutes organizing my workspace, clearing away the remnants of last week’s chaos. A clean slate not only inspires creativity but also reduces stress when diving into Monday morning tasks.

4. Fuel Inspiration

Sundays are also a great time to recharge your creative energy. I’ll flip through design books, watch a film, or even explore nature. Inspiration fuels productivity, and Sunday is the perfect day to fill that creative tank.

5. Practice Self-Care

It’s tempting to cram productivity into every hour of Sunday, but don’t forget to prioritize rest. Whether it’s a yoga session, a walk, or cooking a good meal, self-care is essential. A well-rested body and mind are your best tools for tackling the week.

The Power of a Successful Sunday

For me, a productive Sunday isn’t about working harder—it’s about working smarter. By taking control of the day, I’m not just preparing for the week ahead; I’m reclaiming it. No longer do the Sunday Scaries dictate my mood. Instead, I feel empowered and ready to take on whatever challenges come my way.

So, to my fellow creatives: Let’s make Sunday less about the dread of tomorrow and more about the excitement of the possibilities ahead. What will you do today to set yourself up for success this week?
