• If products are defined from the perspective of the products behaviors and functional characteristics, these new technologies will not work. 
• A combination of data forms transforms the stereotypical CAD model into a product model.
• The product data manager has the ability to integrate the external with the internal.

• Material properties play a significant role in the mechanical design and need to be included in the technical data. 
• Various emerging tools show that true integration has not yet been achieved.
