The final lecture in the series, titled “Arts and Culture as a mechanism for Liberation” will be delivered by theatre legend, award-winning actor, director, playwright, and anti-apartheid activist, Dr John Kani, who has spent his illustrious career telling the stories of the voiceless and giving dignity to those that the system mercilessly sought to deny this basic human right.
This lecture will look at the state of arts and culture in 2020, particularly in light of the devastating impact of the lockdown on the sector. Dr Kani also unpacked how Tambo effectively used arts and culture as a mechanism to liberate South Africa then, and how we can use these to overcome some of the systemic challenges we face today.
