  • 'The Life of an Expert Dog Witness' with Caroline Lewis

Our 'A Dog's Pace' podcast is recorded every month and includes member interviews, special guests and other SLOW focused stories and content. The entire podcast is available on our PATREON page at the AMBASSADOG level, and as a portion on Apple Podcasts. Almost all of our podcasts ARE available in full, so ask your dog loving friends to start listening!

In September and October, we will be speaking with Caroline Lewis about her work as an ‘expert witness’ for dogs and the difficult subject of ‘dangerous dogs’ and the XL Bully situation in the UK.’ Caroline is a dog behaviour consultant and runs ‘Help at Hand Dog Training & Behaviour’  in the U.K. who specialises in deaf & blind dogs, rescue dogs, adolescent dogs, and the plight of the XL Bully. I have known Caroline as a fellow colleague, for years and have loved getting to know her during her ‘deaf dogs’ series last year here on the podcast and am looking forward to this year’s podcasts too.

Caroline mentioned this resource during the podcast:

‘This is the direct link to the solicitors I recommend, and it should take you straight in to the section for owners. I think it's a bargain price for what you get. And I have worked with this practice and can state they are brilliant: https://doglaw.co.uk/dog-law-sos/.'

Almost all of our podcasts ARE available in full, so ask your dog loving friends to start listening!

I had planned to catch up with our past co-director and friend, Jonas Thulin, for our July podcast, but we spoke for four hours (I only managed to record half of our conversation) so I will be sharing our chat over July and August. This is the August portion. Sorry, there is no introduction at the beginning, we just launch right in where we left off. This particular episode may include sensitive information that is upsetting to people who support Spanish rescue agencies or adopt Spanish dogs themselves.

Jonas has his own podcast in Spain called ‘Pongamos Que Hablo de Perros’ or in English ‘Let’s Say I’m Talking About Dogs’: https://pongamosquehablodeperros.info/ You can also find him here: http://jonasthulin.com/en/

‘The best gift that you can give your dog is time’ is a Santos Salcines Nazabal quote. Santos was also our past co-director. Santos and Jonas are good friends and colleagues and have their own podcast in Spanish, called ‘Los Primos,’ in English ‘The Cousins’ https://www.youtube.com/@losprimos-santosyjonas5703 .

Jonas and Santos are also the founders of an ethical dog professional organisation in Spain called ANPECEC.

Please check out Marc Bekoff’s article in Psychology Today entitled ‘All Dogs are Saying, Is Give Pees a Chance,’ about Jonas’ initiative of the same name.

    Jonas also mentioned:

    The Huberman Lab Podcast and

The author, Robert Sapolsky, and his book ‘Why Zebras Don’t Get Ulcers.’

  • ‘Proprioception and Dogs’ with Kirsty and Laura

Our 'A Dog's Pace' podcast is recorded every month and includes member interviews, special guests and other SLOW focused stories and content. The entire podcast is available on our PATREON page at the AMBASSADOG level, and as a portion on SPOTIFY for your friends and family. Many of our podcasts ARE available in full, so ask your dog loving friends to start listening!

In our January podcast, Kirsty Falk, our co-director, and I, talk about dogs and ‘proprioception.’ A definition of this term is: ‘Proprioception is the body’s ability to sense its own position, movement, and actions in space without relying on visual input. It is often referred to as the ‘sixth sense’ and is essential for coordination, balance, and motor control.’ (https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/articles/proprioception and https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/articles/proprioception).

Our dog nerd meanderings and concrete visual examples provide a practical foundation for dog guardians to start trying this out, if they haven’t already. I mentioned the ‘Ortodon Sensory Orthopaedic Foot Massage Floor Mat’ tool, in the podcast. I have provided a link to it here.

The entire podcast is available on our PATREON page at the AMBASSADOG level. Many of our podcasts ARE available in full, so ask your dog friends to start listening!

This December I have a lovely story to share with you - the story of ‘Purple Pup,’ a dog enrichment shop in Scarborough, North Yorkshire. When our family was in North Yorkshire, and thinking of moving to Scarborough,,we found Dianne Murphy-Rodgers. We were delighted to shop for treats and chews for our dogs at Dianne’s shop, Purple Pup. Later, my indoor sensory garden for dogs, Snuffl, moved two doors down from Purple Pup and Dianne and I collaborated and became close friends. This is the Purple Pup story.

Our very own Silke Strasser and I got together to have a casual chat about senior dogs and their special place in our lives. Silke, like many of us, has a senior dog, called Frida. Through deep observations and a strong bond with Friday, Silke has many noticing about this time in a dog’s life. We talked about our own dogs, and many of the ways we can make dogs’ lives better when they age.

Our 'A Dog's Pace' podcast is recorded every month and includes member interviews, special guests and other SLOW focused stories and content. The entire podcast is available on our PATREON page at the AMBASSADOG level, and as a portion on SPOTIFY . Many of our podcasts ARE available in full, so ask your dog friends to start listening!

This month our co-directors got together to talk about ‘co-regulation’ between dogs and humans. The podcast was inspired by Rose Waldrup and her IG feed where she explores hands on somatic touch and scientific proof of its benefits on the dog’s nervous system. None of us are experts or body work practitioners, and really only touched upon the very tiniest part of this subject. Apologies for my feverish dialogue, as I was sick during this podcast. Tanya hadn’t eaten dinner yet as she had just returned from her work in Moscow and it was 10pm her time. The next time we attempt to discuss this most important realm of dog health, we will be interviewing a professional.

Anita Kytomaa, of Woofs to Kittys is a trailblazer in the UK dog equipment and dog store market. She has always been a progressive advocate of healthy chews and food for dogs, but her Bare Dog harness is a unique and ethical choice for dog guardians in the UK and around the world. Bare Dog harnesses have plenty of choice in terms of colour and style, but their fit and comfortable style is what stands them alone in the UK Harness market - they simply don’t have to compete. I hope that you find our conversation illuminating.
