Coffee was discovered around 700 AD in Ethopia but they did not traditionally use it to make a drink. It was moslems who migrated to Ethiopia, being the first to roast the seeds we call beans and brew a beverage.
The first time it was written about was 900 AD by Abu BAkr Al Razi, A Moslem Physician, he wrote that it was good to relieve headaches and digestion issues.

1000 AD IB Sina, known as Avicenna wrote about the health benefits of coffee in his books, describing it as a stimulant that could help improve digestion among other benefits.
In 1300 they would actually boil the whole bean, until someone had the idea to use a mortar and pestle to grind it before boiling it.

In 1350 they began using earthenware cups

1400 Roasting colanders were invented
