A Faith That Lasts
“Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them.” – John 3 verse 36.
A lot of people say, “I believe in God” or “I’m a follower of Jesus,” but true faith goes far beyond just saying the words. This verse shows us that believing in the Son means walking with Him every day. In the original Greek, the word for “believes” is in a continuous form, meaning it’s not about believing just once in the past—it’s about continually believing and trusting Him in the present.
That kind of ongoing faith changes how we live. Believing in Jesus means trusting Him, obeying His Word, and staying close to Him. It shapes our decisions, our relationships, our attitudes—everything. Real faith is not just something we pull out on Saturdays or in hard times. It’s meant to be the foundation of our lives every single day.
But this verse also includes a serious warning: those who reject or disobey the Son won’t see life. This isn’t just talking about physical death—it’s about being separated from God, missing out on eternal life. When someone refuses to follow Jesus, they’re choosing a path where God’s wrath—His just response to sin—remains on them. Not because God doesn’t love them, but because He’s already provided a way out, and they’ve chosen to ignore it.
God doesn’t want to lose anyone. He gave everything—His own Son—so that we could be saved. But salvation isn’t automatic. It’s a gift, and like any gift, it has to be received. If someone chooses sin over the Savior, they’ll ultimately share in the destruction that sin brings.
This is a good moment to pause and ask: Am I really living like someone who believes in Jesus? It’s not enough to just say we have faith. Faith means surrender. It means choosing Jesus every day and letting Him lead our lives. If there are areas where you’ve been disobedient, it’s not too late to turn back. God is always ready to forgive, restore, and walk with you again.
Take a moment to pray:
“Jesus, I don’t want to have a shallow faith. Teach me what it means to truly believe. Help me to live Your Word and obey You with all my heart. I want to remain in You and walk with You daily. In Your name I pray, amen.”
