Warning!!!: In this chapter there are graphic descriptions of bodily injury & death. If you’d rather not hear the violent & gruesome details of war, I recommend skipping ahead to chapter TEN.
When we ended part one of chapter nine, the lieutenant & 4 mechanics who had be enlisted as ambulance drivers were sitting in a shallow dug-out, eating spaghetti & cheese, drinking stale wine, & listening to the artillery & machine gun fire & explosions creeping closer on all sides of their position.
My name is Tricia Sulpizio & I am a professor of communication & your host for another episode of tea & bedtime stories, a podcast for anyone who likes stories & stories about stories.
In this episode, we will continue reading A Farewell to Arms, a novel by Ernest Hemingway, published in 1929. Last time, we read chapter NINE part ONE in book ONE, & now I will continue the story with chapter NINE part TWO. After reading the chapter, I will follow up with quick facts & my impressions.
There are only 3 chapters left in book one. I will be changing-up the format of the podcast for book two. I’m excited to learn whether or not it makes a big difference in your experience as the listener. I put my email in the description & would love to hear your thoughts.
I look forward to talking to you soon. Thanks for listening!
