The second in, I hope, a long series of mysteries set in Naples.
A splendid sequel to These Dark Things, Ms. Weiss's much admired first book. Her Captain Natalia of the Carabinieri is called to the scene of a bizarre double murder, the victims left in a countess's garden aboard a sculptured horse. I especially admired the moral quandary the heroine is faced with as her integrity is challenged by love. A wonderfully dramatic dilemma. Also enjoyed Lola, her childhood friend and local criminal. A terrific,spunky character. The criminal slang used by the Neapolitan underworld is especially entertaining. Jan Merete Weiss obviously knows this world first hand.
Love this author!
Her writing shows extensive research, and insight into the culture of Naples and the area. I read her first novel and couldn't wait for this one. There are a few repetitions, but they don't seriously detract from the narrative. I can't wait for the next one. This could be the next Brunetti/Leon series for we Italian fiction aficionados.

Really fine characters, wonderful plot, and a portrayal of Naples as real as you will find. This is my second Jan Weiss book, and I look forward to reading her third.

Very good read--fast paced, good characters, intriguing, could not put it down. Loved the sights, sounds and smells of Naples.

Enjoyed this book. Haven't gotten into the characters yet.
