Is atheism inherently anti-paranormal, or does the paranormal have a secular quality we are yet to comprehend?

If we view the paranormal as an essential component of the human condition, which is shaped and formed by our own creation, why do we still feel a God is necessary? What if all this power is already contained within ourselves, or even the natural world around us?
