Publisher's Summary:
Adam Tomaszewski is a Polish airman, flying Hurricanes alongside British pilots as the Battle of Britain rages in the summer skies over Kent and Sussex. Facing death daily and far from his friends and family, Adam finds himself drawn to a maverick Irish soldier called Gerry Cunningham.
"You're out of luck, brother," are the first words Gerry says when they meet in the crush of men competing for the few women at a dance in a seaside hotel, but when Gerry betrays his lover Moira, Adam's fortunes seem to have changed. For the next four years, Adam's life and Gerry's are intertwined like good luck and bad, love and loss, life and death, their paths crossing at various points on Adam's perilous journey from the ruins of Poland to the rolling English countryside, from Egypt to Occupied France.
A hauntingly evocative picture of wartime Britain, a twisting drama of fighting behind enemy lines, a compelling, suspenseful love story, A Good War proves Patrick Bishop - already acclaimed as a great historian of the war in the air - to be a superbly gifted novelist.
Members Reviews:
Not at all as the Daily Mail says!
The Daily Mail rant is way off base. There is very little aerial combat and it is poorly described. The hero has a dismal record of losing planes for one reason or the other. Most of the book covers activities completely unrelated to aviation and gets bogged down with side story lines. Could not develop any real affinity for the hero....he comes off as just another body taking up space in the book and the war. In addition, the writing skills of the author are pretty basic.
Interesting slant of WWII in the air
A very good read with an interesting slant with the perspective of a Polish fighter pilot. It cover the Battle of Britain well as well as partisan support activities in France at the time of the Normandy invasion. Well thought out. I liked it and plan to read more in this series!
Good story
Well written story of WWII in England.
WW-2 Air War
Good read but I felt it was lacking some zing. Also I could put this one down easily. Don't know if it was the story line or characters?

well written, fun, real, I think a real view of one part of ww2.a little fear a little spice and a great story.
