Often the church has emphasized the power of our identity in Christ in the context of its benefits; what we can obtain. Whilst this is valid, it is often still centred around our needs and desires. The result is that our identity in Christ becomes a mere tool for gaining our idols. This is humanism. The Lord has shown me the importance of having an identity that is centred around the Gospel. What does a life look like when the Gospel is central? Paul was an example of this.

Phil 1:20-21 I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. 21 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.

A Gospel-centred-mindset will say, “Everything my body does results in Jesus being exalted. Everywhere I go and everything I say is to your honour and glory Lord.” Many believers are still searching for significance yet Jesus says, “You are already significant in me.”
