Uncontested Spaces: Guerilla Readings in the MoMA Galleries

As part of Kenneth Goldsmith's "Poet Laureate" program, he invites renowned writers to choose works in MoMA's collection, develop a response, and then select a space in the Museum galleries where they will perform the resulting readings and texts on Wednesdays. On selected Fridays, Goldsmith himself will contribute readings in the galleries. Visitors can meet the writers directly in their selected gallery.

David Shields is the author of 14 books, including How Literature Saved My Life (recently published by Knopf); Reality Hunger; The Thing About Life Is That One Day You'll Be Dead; Black Planet (finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award); and Remote (winner of the PEN/Revson Award). The recipient of a Guggenheim fellowship and two NEA fellowships, Shields has published essays and stories in The New York Times Magazine, Harper’s, Yale Review, and dozens of other journals. His work has been translated into 17 languages.
