A Heart at Peace
“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.” – John 14:1
The disciples were troubled. Jesus had just told them He would soon leave. For those who had left everything to follow Him, this felt like the end of a dream. But Jesus didn’t scold them for their sorrow—He comforted them.
“Let not your heart be troubled…” He acknowledged that fear and uncertainty were real. But then, He gave the cure: believe. Trust in God. Trust in Him.
In the original Greek, the word “believe” can be either a command or a statement. Jesus may be saying: “You believe in God, and you believe in Me,” or “Believe in God, and believe in Me.” Either way, His message is clear: faith is the antidote for a troubled heart.
Notice three key words:
- Troubled – Jesus doesn’t want anxiety ruling your heart.
- Heart – that’s where peace must live, regardless of what’s happening outside.
- You – even if the world is falling apart, you—as a disciple of Christ—should not be shaken like everyone else.
Jesus never promised a life free of problems. But He did promise His presence through them. And more than that: He said His departure was only temporary. He went to prepare a place for us.
When your heart wavers, look up. Remember: those who trust, find rest. Those who believe, walk in peace.
