In this episode, Revelation 3:7-13, Jesus addresses the church in Philadelphia, commending their faithfulness despite their limited strength. He assures them that He holds the "key of David," signifying His ultimate authority and the power to open doors that no one can shut, and shut doors that no one can open. Because they have kept His word and not denied His name, He promises to make their enemies acknowledge them and to keep them from the hour of trial coming upon the whole world. He encourages them to hold fast to what they have so that no one takes their crown, promising that those who overcome will become pillars in God's temple, never to leave, and will have God's name, the name of the new Jerusalem, and His own new name written on them.
