2 Samuel 9:1-13
The covenant kindness of King David toward the house of Saul extends much farther than it might appear on the surface. It is rooted in and reflects the covenant kindness of Yahweh to his people through generations past, and continuing until the consummation of history. Again reflecting Yahweh’s chesed love, David’s kindness is applied very personally to Mephibosheth and is based on the public declaration of the king, ensuring that it will be fulfilled. Along with blessings, with it a covenant carries obligations. As members of the covenant community of the Kingdom, may we personally reflect on our own obligations and seek to move intentionally toward fulfilling them.
