Members Reviews:
I really really wanted to love this but......
Yes, this had such potential and I usually love MJP's books but I found this one to be a wee bit too slow and lacking in emotion. Duncan, a Scottish Laird and a weather mage Guardian is attracted to Gwynne (a Mundane) someone who hasn't any magic, or so they thought, and almost instantly proposes to her. The mage Council forces Gwynne to accept Duncan's proposal because they can see future events tie the two together so they go to his Castle in Scotland. But they get caught up in the Jacobite rebellion with dire consequences.
The problems about this book was the two main characters get married early on in the story and they seemed to amble along quite happily until near the end therefore there was no great build-up to the romance and so part 1 was a bit tedious, luckily part 2 was more lively. The characters didn't seem to have any depth to them and it just lacked the 'sizzle' that we normally associate with MJP's books.
Worth a credit? This is the start of a new series so I hope book 2 will be better and I guess I'll be downloading it because I can't resist her books and, if your a fan like me, you'll want this, but she's written far better Historical romances that would be more worthy of your credit.
Good Solid Read by a Very Good Narrator
Where does A Kiss of Fate rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
Though not of the high energy variety, this book takes a time in history and wraps it in magic and emotion. Character development is very well done, good since this is the first in a series.
What did you like best about this story?
The linking of all the characters and the telling of their own parts of the story.
What does Davina Porter bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Davina is one of the best narrators. She adds the Scottish feel and makes it work. She also has the ability to soften harsher parts of the story and adds emotion to all the characters.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, but had to do it in two. (-;
Any additional comments?
This book is not one of the more intricately written with many sub-plots, but it is a well done and enjoyable story.
Not worth the time to download.
This book wasnt for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Don't know anyone that would.
What do you think your next listen will be?
It was a Jack Reacher novel.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
The narrator was fine. The story and the writing was blah.
You didnt love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
The narrator.
Guardian Series- 2nd Story
Any additional comments?
The Guardian Series is written by Mary Jo Putney otherwise known as "M. J. Putney". A Kiss of Fate is actually the 2nd story in the series. It should follow: 1.
