Faithful to the End

A Life of Faith

Listen Later

As Genesis continues, the story is going to begin to narrow from all humanity to a specific individual, Abram, and the call of Yahweh in his life. Initially, the genealogies transition from the family of Noah to the family of Terah and one specific son, Abram. In the middle of the genealogies, once again there is a record of man's resistance and rebellion against God. God confounds human languages and this disperses humanity. Abram is then called by God to leave his home, his father's house, his city and travel to a new land. Abram obeys and the following accounts demonstrate what faith looks like as it is lived out daily, in the ups and downs of life. The lesson for us is simply: no matter the trial, conflict or victory, a life of faith is defined by obedience. Is your journey of faith defined by obedience to God and his word?

Genesis is a book of new beginnings. It offers the origins of the universe, the atmosphere, the human race, language, culture, marriage, language, order, time, worship, and a chosen people. Genesis focuses on God as creator and sustainer of all things. Genesis introduces the patriarchs of Israel and the promises made to them by God. Genesis demonstrates throughout that God has spoken, spoken in creation, spoken in blessing humanity, spoken even in the curses and judgment because of sin and evil of humanity. Genesis is focused on the communication of God with humanity, communication that presents the truths of God, about himself and his world he created.
