Being Aloud

A Life of Self-Reflection

I know how awkward and heavy it feels to show up for ourselves in a way that matters. And I know how much easier it is to turn to our phones for distraction from the frustrations we face on a day to day basis. I get sick of the email I've been trying to write for hours so I scroll through instagram. I’m waiting for my turn at the bank so I scroll through instagram. I’m not enjoying the company I'm with, so, you guessed it, I scroll through instagram–and tiktok and facebook and God knows what else. And the habit doesn’t end, because the second we get home from work most of us will also almost instantly switch our TVs on. We call it relaxation. We call it unwinding from our stressful days at school or work. Our phones and TVs have become our numbing balms, because the alternative of actually sitting with our thoughts and feelings  is uncomfortable. We will do anything to get us out of processing our days. Anything at all to keep us from sitting with our thoughts and emotions. I get it.

My name is Bee Bishay and you’re listening to another episode of the Being Aloud podcast. Today I invite you to dive with me into the importance of introspection. Is it really important to look within? And if so, why? And what are some habits we can incorporate into our routines that can make self-reflection more accessible?
