Gears and Beers: The Unashamedly Unprofessional Automotive Podcast

A little bit 'oh my car's not starting any more'

Listen Later

We are back for episode 72, and we kick off living up to our 'Unashamedly Unprofessional' motto before actually talking about anything worthwhile.
This week we talk about carbon fibre conrods unveiled at SEMA 2018, then we talk a bit about SEMA in general and some of our favourite builds from the show.
We then talk about class restrictions for some local racing series that Joseph competes in, we then talk a bit more about Joseph's racing.
Then Mitch triggers Matt with a bit of a hot take about turbos, and not-so-gracefully transition to Subaru's (and Toyota's) recall on MY12 to MY13 vehicles fitted with the FA20 engine. Subaru says that the valve springs may fail and cause complete engine failure.
We then talk about Chevrolet making a 1-off electric Camaro drag car, and segway onto talking about the differences between the used car markets in Australia and America.
Joseph then brings up Toyota Japan wanting to introduce a subscription model where people can drive whatever Toyota they want depending on their needs at the time. No word on when that's actually happening, or if it'll ever happen in Australia.
We then play the six-cylinder edition of the new game we've been playing the last few episodes. Joseph and Mitch are tasked with finding 4 cars each, for 4 separate categories: Track Car, Drag Car, Daily-Driver, and All The Money In The World.
While Joseph and Mitch find their cars, Matt and Joel talk about Motorcycle Minute, the carbon fibre conrods we mentioned earlier, and the recent work Joel has put into his Z32.
Then, we had to cut the end, because even for us, what was said, should not be heard by anyone.... :P
