On Day 5 of our Advent journey, we follow Abraham—the man called to walk into the unknown with nothing but God’s word in his hands. Abraham’s story teaches one of the most important truths about waiting well: When we’re unsure what to do next, we should obey what God has already revealed.
In Genesis 12, God calls Abraham to “go… to the land I will show you.” It’s a command without full details, a direction without a map. Abraham doesn’t know how God will fulfill His promises or when they will come to pass. But he knows enough to take the next step of obedience. And that step becomes the beginning of God’s great redemptive plan.
Years later, in Genesis 15, Abraham is still waiting—older, unsure, and full of honest questions. Yet God doesn't give him a timeline; instead, He gives him something better: reassurance and a renewed promise. God invites Abraham to look at the stars and remember that His promises are bigger and more certain than Abraham’s fears.
This episode explores how God’s people wait—not by demanding clarity about the future, but by faithfully doing what God has already made clear. And in Advent, we see how this promise reaches its fulfillment. The blessing God promised to Abraham—the promise that “all the families of the earth shall be blessed”—comes to us in Jesus Christ, the true Offspring of Abraham who brings salvation to the world.
Today’s practical exercise invites listeners to examine their own lives and identify the clear, simple acts of faithfulness God has already placed before them. Because waiting well is not passive—it’s obedient, hopeful, and grounded in the God who keeps His promises.
