A look inside Tesco solar lights - RGB and plain white

Listen Later

Another video and yet another recording device. Every single one has its quirks, and apparently this one likes to do explosive bench-clutter reveals unexpectedly by zooming back out much further than it started off.

Let me know what you think of the audio. I did notice a close-up focus glitch. But as with every camera, you just have to get to know the quirks.

I thought it would be interesting to look at the local supermarket's packs of standard solar lights, in both the standard black plastic and white LED version and the luxury stainless trim and RGB LED version.

These would make an excellent source of donor modules for repairing favourite lights that have suffered the usual water ingress damage. They can be upgraded with bigger cells, different inductors to boost output intensity and new LEDs if desired.

If using as-is. I recommend adding some clear outdoor cloche repair tape over the top to seal the solar panel from water ingress around its edges, and applying grease or laquer to the PCB and LED leads to reduce corrosion.
