In his book the Outliers, Malcom Gladwell observes that musicians do ~10,000 hours of practise before getting famous, and Bill Gates did ~10,000 of programming before he created Microsoft. He uses this pattern to suggest that 10,000 hours of practise will make you an expert in anything; the 10,000 hour rule.
