Pierre talks to Phil Samba @idiosyncraticxl, a social activist, writer, researcher and HIV prevention advocate. They discuss Phil's journey as a black gay man in London, navigating stereotypes and moving towards self-realisation.
Phil is on a mission to democratise access to PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis), an HIV prevention drug, and its significance in the gay community, especially for black and bi men, is at the centrepiece of this conversation.
Phil also sheds light on the stereotyped expectations and challenges he faces as a black gay man, including societal preconceptions about masculinity, race, and sexuality. Phil works with The Love Tank CIC @thelovetankcic, a non-profit dedicated to reducing HIV and poor sexual health outcomes in marginalised communities and has recently contributed to the book Mandem. Aside from Phil's personal and professional journey, the pair also discuss the importance of being true to oneself, despite societal pressures.
