This week, Luke, Larry, and Cody tackle some of the biggest stories in gaming news including the ESA leak, changes coming to loot boxes and the positive impact of gaming. Check the notes below for details on each topic.
Luke’s Topic: Today, the ESA announced that console makers Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft have come together to resolve that they would require publishers who use loot boxes to disclose the drop rates for those boxes some time in 2020. The guys discuss what kind of impact this change may have on gaming economics and whether or not disclosing these details will have a positive or negative impact on the perception of loot boxes.
Cody’s Topic: Over the weekend, it was revealed that the ESA published the contact details of 2000 games media personalities, writers, and content creators. Cody, Larry, and Luke give their reactions to the news, ESA negligence, and the means by which the news was released. Plus, they speculate on what, if any, kind of impact this will have on both the ESA and their annual event, E3.
Larry’s Topic: Gaming and violence once again made the news following the heinous and tragic events that took place in El Paso and Dayton over the weekend. In light of the rampant conversations around gaming’s negative impacts on society (though largely unproven), Larry takes the conversation a different direction to talk about how gaming can positively impact individuals.
