A Meaningful Voice

Do you have voices in your head? No, not those kinds of voices. Are personality disorders real? Of course they are. But let’s not be afraid to talk about voices for fear of being misunderstood. In fact, until we are ready to acknowledge the voices at our inner-table, they will continue to carry sway over us, controlling us, robbing us of the meaningfulness that could be. How about self-pity? That voice that says look at how much more successful everyone else is…look at how much better everyone’s life is compared to you? What about rebellion? That voice that says God shouldn’t tell us how to live. How about that voice of cynicism…that voice that says look out, everyone is going to betray you!. Tonight’s message is about finding the right voices at your inner-table, especially the voice of the Holy Spirit who is echoing the heart of God toward you, declaring and proclaiming that you belong, that you are loved, and that He is proud of you! Ecclesiastes is one of the most misunderstood books in the Bible. I don’t think Solomon is saying everything is meaningless. He is saying everything is meaningless, unless. That’s right, unless! Your life can be filled with meaning! But that pivot toward meaning begins with the right voices, the most important voice being the Holy Spirit. So let me ask you, to whom have you been listening recently? Let’s make sure that table inside each of us is occupied by all the right voices and none of the wrong ones!
