On this episode of AMW I chat to Sue who talks me through the role of a lactation consultant. Being completely honest I initially thought an IBCLC helped you with a poor latch or could help with tongue tie, little did I know.We discuss how a IBCLC can support you both antenatally and also in the days following babies arrival. The continuity of care and follow-up is what makes this service so special. It's amazing to see many other health professionals qualify as lactation consultants to support their patients. It's most certainly no easy task gaining that qualification. Our chat is from the perspective of a private practitioner but I intend on diving into the services of an IBCLC in a hospital environment in the future. There is such a strong community of passionate people providing support for many of us who run bumps in our feeding journeys.Enjoy!
