The novel was a thriller about high-finance, immigration, and the encroaching surveillance state in Europe and the United States. The film featured a deep roster of German and American actors and one of the last screen performances by Phillip Seymour Hoffman. But is the film a worthy adaptation for one of Le Carré’s final books?
