Cope & Land

A Mother-in-Waiting’s Journey

Listen Later

Has there ever been something in your life that you’ve wanted so bad it hurts? Maybe it’s a house, a promotion, or maybe it’s even bringing a new life into the world. Sometimes God presents us with struggles because He knows that we can learn, grow, and even blossom from them.

Today, I welcome my friend Jill Renfro. Jill is a wife, a momma-to-be, an entrepreneur, a Texan, and a voice for those grappling with infertility. She’s just a few weeks away from welcoming her beautiful rainbow baby boy, and today she takes us with her on the journey that got her here.

Jill chats with me about her long road with infertility, miscarriage, IVF, and how the power of her faith kept her going. She opens up and gets real with me about how devastating her struggle was, the toll it took on her, and how it completely transformed her attitude and outlook on life.

Tune in and listen to episode nine of Cope and Land. We discuss Jill’s belief in the power of prayer, how her humor helps her cope, and why the dialogue around infertility isn’t quite as open as it could or should be. Learn how Jill and her husband’s faith brought them closer than ever, why she calls him her “unicorn,” and the incident that convinced her to open up about their struggles on social media.

In this episode, you will learn:

  • A little about who Jill is as a person and how her journey changed her (4:38)
  • The pain Jill experienced while being in a season of perpetual waiting (12:24)
  • How Jill’s strong marriage with her husband was resolidified by their shared fertility issues (21:24)
  • How Jill questioned herself, as a Christian, if IVF was the right thing to do (27:58)
  • About the loss that I experienced at 26 weeks and how it changed me (32:58)
  • Why it’s important to stop making difficult subjects taboo and why it’s so helpful to start an open dialogue (39:31)
  • Why we shouldn’t make assumptions on where anyone is in their life without knowing them first (48:23)

Some questions I ask:

  • Do you see your painful moments where you discover empathy as a gift? (10:15)
  • How long did you try for? Would you mind sharing your timeline and what that looked like for you? (14:25)
  • What were you feeling when your doctor told you that it was time for you to see a fertility specialist? (19:35)
  • What helped you cope with the pain of your losses? (34:11)
  • What’s something we can ask a woman when we meet her that’s not, “Do you have kids”? (47:03)
  • Would you like to share the name you have picked out? (55:24)
