A New Identity

This is the first Sunday of the New Year. Our good news is if we are in Christ, the old has gone and the new has come. Because of our new identity in Christ, not in other things, we are forgiven and empowered. We don’t have to be defined by our past or stay stuck in our present circumstances. When we become new, our status changes. Because the old has gone and the new identity has come, we also have a new mission in life. Change happens best when we see things differently. That’s why we need the church. We can lean into the wisdom and friendship of people who’ve “been there and done that.” Young people need mentors to share experiences. Older people need young people to maintain enthusiasm and creativity. We need each other. If I didn’t believe people can and do change, I’d not be in the ministry. We can all learn, grow, change, develop, improve, expand, recover and progress. Let’s explore what new things God has in store for us as He is making ALL THINGS new. This year, 2020, is a wonderful opportunity for us to sow good seed and produce a good crop.
