One of the aspects of Jewish life many people find most difficult to understand is "shmirat negiah"—the custom according to which men and women don’t engage in physical contact before their wedding. I want to share a little bit about my own decision to observe this custom, and why I still think it was one of the best and wisest decisions I’ve ever made.
