A Parent's Crusade for Children's Rights

Teenagers are warned to stay away from illicit drugs. They can be expelled from their schools for abusing them. But if these same teenagers won't take a “legal,” mind-altering, prescribed drug, they can be locked up in a mental ward.  This is the fundamental contradiction facing parents and kids today: Just “Say No to Drugs”… unless or course a psychiatrist or doctor prescribes them. Never mind that they are as addictive as cocaine and more abused than street drugs. In the U.S., about 3,500 people die each year from unintentional deaths due to antidepressants, sleeping pills, and tranquilizers—more than all cocaine and heroin deaths combined. That doesn't include the number of children and teens that are driven to suicide by antidepressants. Families are devastated by the fact that they were never warned of the risks involved. This week's guest is just one of those parents who decided to fight back. Mathy Milling Downing took tragedy and turned it into a crusade for children's rights.
