In this episode, we walk through, character by character, this beautifully written book about five best friends overcoming the odds and finding joy amidst life’s challenges in a slum of Bangalore. The resilience and joy shines through with author's poetic writing style and the stories of the many women spotlight diversity, hardship, and love.

One small caveat--around the 7 minute mark, we do talk a bit about how sons are valued more than daughters in this specific context, and while this may be culturally relevant, it is also a stereotypical representation in this book and something that communities in India are working hard to combat.
