Watching television or a romantic comedy, we can see how popular culture defines “love”. This world demonstrates love as an emotional reaction or a fleeting feeling. But God’s Word talks differently about love. The Bible demonstrates love as an eternal choice – as a statement of grace.
True love was demonstrated by God, when He sent His only Son Jesus to die on a cross for our sins. Can you even imagine that? God loved us enough to send His Son to die? To die for our sins before we even received Him into our heart? 1 John 4:10 says, “This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” God’s love for us is something we can’t earn, and it’s something that can never be taken away. God’s perfect love is selfless, patient, kind, and never-ending.
As followers of Jesus, we have to consider: how are we defining love in our own lives? How are we portraying love to the people in our family or circle of friends? If we really want to share the news of Jesus with others, we must understand that it starts with love. Real, honest, selfless love. This is Luis Palau.
