A Piercing Question (Psa 15)

Listen Later

Psalm 1 Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill? 2 He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart. 3 He that backbiteth not with his tongue, nor doeth evil to his neighbour, nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour. 4 In whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but he honoureth them that fear the Lord. He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not. 5 He that putteth not out his money to usury, nor taketh reward against the innocent. He that doeth these things shall never be moved. Psalm 15 presents a piercing, sobering examination of what it means to truly abide in God's presence, both on earth and in eternity, posing the profound question: Who shall dwell in His holy hill? The answer is not found in human merit but in the transformative work of Christ, who perfectly embodies the righteous character described—walking uprightly, practicing righteousness, speaking truth, honoring God's people, and rejecting evil. While the psalm reveals the high standard of holiness required, it is not meant to induce despair but to drive the believer to Christ, the only one who fulfills this standard perfectly and imputes His righteousness to all who trust in Him. The message calls for honest self-examination, not to earn salvation, but to grow in holiness out of love for God, motivated by the grace found in His presence and the desire to honor Him in every area of life, including speech, relationships, and stewardship. Ultimately, the promise is secure: those united to Christ shall never be moved, for His faithfulness is the foundation of our hope.
