The Sage Stage Practice

A Practice of Honesty

Listen Later

Last time, we explored kindness — the simple practice of softening the way we speak to ourselves.

Kindness creates safety. And from that safety, something else becomes possible: honesty.

Many of us are very good at being honest with other people. But with ourselves, it can be harder. We push feelings aside. We tell ourselves we’re “fine.” We rush past fatigue, disappointment, or quiet longings.

Sometimes we avoid the truth because we think it will be overwhelming. Or because we worry we’ll judge ourselves for what we find.

But honesty, when it’s held in kindness, is not harsh. It’s steady. It says: This is what’s here right now. No drama. No fixing. Just seeing clearly.

In yoga, this is part of the practice — learning to be with our experience as it truly is, not as we wish it were.

In the meditation attached, we practice a gentle form of honesty. Not digging, not analyzing — simply noticing what’s present in the body, the breath, and the heart, and allowing it to be known.

Truth, met with kindness, can be a very peaceful place to stand.
