A major component in prayer is believing that you have received what you've asked.  There is, however, a pitfall to receiving and that is doubt.  When we doubt we can't expect to receive.  James warns us in the first chapter of his book to be mindful of the doubt that may creep into our thinking.  One who doubts God should not expect to receive anything from Him.
