Transformative Simplicity

A Prison Called Shame Episode 1 of 2

Listen Later

This is Episode 1 of a Two-Part Series where I talk about shame.

Shame is a complex and often misunderstood emotion that compels us to hide or deny the severity of how we feel. It distorts how we perceive and interpret circumstances and reality.

Shame thrives on being undetected, therefore, evaluating the magnitude, depth, and impact of shame is intricate because sometimes the root is planted on an incident that is concrete, and other times, on accumulated incidents that are abstract.

 During this episode,

We look at healing through a mind-body monism lens where we treat the mental and physical as a single, holistic system, and focus on exploring aspects of neuroscience research, neuroplasticity, epigenetic mechanisms, gene expression, and quantum physics that help us develop a fuller picture of the role our mind and body play in either helping release shame from our system or keeping us cemented in it.

Topics I covered in this episode:

—The role understanding our own biology and epigenetic mechanisms play in healing shame.

—Why awareness and lifestyle changes help but don’t heal us.

—How unexpressed emotion can lead to dangerous and toxic behavior.

—The manifestations of shame.

—The interplay between shame and addiction.
