A Professor Berates Her Student, Good and Bad Arguments

"In science it often happens that scientists say, "You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken," and then they actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that has happened in politics or religion."  -Karl Sagan

A professor at Cypress College in California berated her student for a pro-police view.  She said some nonsense -- and I mean real nonsense since it was false but had it been true it wouldn't have meant anything.

For example, a BLM supporter once murdered five Dallas police officers.  But this is not a good argument that BLM is evil.  No organization is accurately defined by its worst element.
