I stayed up for the 3 am UK premiere and, after watching one episode, it's already evident that this is a notable improvement over House of the Dragon. I never really finished the second season of HotD because it just didn't engage me, but I adored the original Game of Thrones and have read all the books. Already, I sense that this new series captures that early GoT essence.
The casting is outstanding so far. Peter Claffey is suitably tall for Ser Dunk. In addition to his physical presence, there's a lot more humor here that was desperately lacking in House of the Dragon. The production quality is superb; the landscapes, costumes, and the overall grittiness of the environment feel genuine, as one would anticipate from such a high-budget production.
