A Psalm of Revival

Listen Later

Psalm 85 | A Psalm of Revival

Theme: His salvation and glory are near, so pray for revival. And don’t stop until you see it.

Exodus 20:3, 5-6

"You shall have no other gods before Me….5 "You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me, 6 but showing lovingkindness to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.

Colossians 1:19-22

For it was the [Father's] good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him, 20 and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, [I say,] whether things on earth or things in heaven. 21 And although you were formerly alienated and hostile in mind, [engaged] in evil deeds, 22 yet He has now reconciled you in His fleshly body through death, in order to present you before Him holy and blameless and beyond reproach

“Holiness is a principle for which God would die.” Billy Graham

Romans 3:25-26

whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. [This was] to demonstrate His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed; 26 for the demonstration, [I say,] of His righteousness at the present time, so that He would be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

Revival – brought back to life (the fullness of God’s favor and blessing)

• It comes from God

• We should pray for it

• It may be personal or corporate

Psalm 51:10, 12

Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. ... 12 Restore to me the joy of Your salvation And sustain me with a willing spirit.

Psalm 119:25

My soul cleaves to the dust; Revive me according to Your word.

Revival – brought back to life (the fullness of God’s favor and blessing)

• It is “to joy”

Psalm 126:1-6

When the LORD brought back the captive ones of Zion, We were like those who dream. 2 Then our mouth was filled with laughter And our tongue with joyful shouting; Then they said among the nations, "The LORD has done great things for them." 3 The LORD has done great things for us; We are glad. 4 Restore our captivity, O LORD, As the streams in the South. 5 Those who sow in tears shall reap with joyful shouting. 6 He who goes to and fro weeping, carrying [his] bag of seed, Shall indeed come again with a shout of joy, bringing his sheaves [with him.]

Pray for revival: for your pastor, for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon our church, for other churches, and for our community.
