Konrad Smith interviews Dutch-American photo- and video-journalist Jaap Arriens, whose credits range from covering protests far and wide, ranging for Euromaidan in Ukraine to the widespread anti-abortion protests in Poland for agencies such as Nurphoto, Sipa and Agence France Press (AFP). Topics include the recent shooting of Dutch investigative journalist Peter R. de Vries, possibly by a supercartel made up of Moroccan, Irish, Italian and Bosnian gangs, to the killings of journalists in Slovakia to the recent attacks on more than 50 journalists in Tblisi--as well as the daily legal and physical realities and dangers of attempting to photograph protests and counter protests of both the left and right.
