No one likes to make themselves vulnerable, but some types of growth can't come until we do. And this is why it's important to pray like David did in the Psalms:

"Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting" (Psalm 139:23-24).

The only reason we would shy away from a prayer like this is if we have a wrong view of God. But when you know the heart of God, it's not scary at all.
